Akshay Kumar is a bankable star and there is no doubt about that! The actor has been consistently delivering hits after hits. In fact, since last year, he has given us four Rs 100 crore films, which is a fantastic achievement to say the least. And with two more releases in his kitty this year, we are sure that he will take his tally even higher. This year, his biggest release has to be 2.0 alongside Rajinikanth.
The two superstars have teamed up for the first time and we are the film is going to be a guaranteed hit just because of the sheer stardom that the two actors command. With that in mind, we heard a few weeks back that the distribution rights of 2.0 was sold at a whopping amount. However, looks like there is even better news for Akshay Kumar as the theatrical and distribution rights of his other upcoming film – Padman, has also been sold at a HUGE fee in the domestic as well as the overseas market. Yes, the media reported today that the distribution rights of Twinkle Khanna’s debut production have been picked up for a huge price (which includes the India theatrical and overseas rights) by Sony.
The production house happened to see some rushes of the film and came away impressed. We guess the distributors feel that with Akshay’s stardom, the quality of films that he delivers and his fabulous run at the box office, they will easily earn huge profits. Padman, a biopic on Arunachalam Muruganantham, famously known as the India’s Menstruation Man, releases next year on Republic Day weekend and is being shot with Akshay and Radhika in Madhya Pradesh. Sonam joins the cast this month.
