Kriti Sanon reveals how she & Sushant Singh Rajput dealt with Raabta’s failure with a bottle of wine

Kriti Sanon has long been one of Bollywood’s most outspoken celebrities, with a large fan base thanks to her roles in multiple successful films. She was good friends with late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, and the two even collaborated on the film Raabta. Kriti recently opened out on how the team dealt with the poor box office collections and reviews after the film failed to get crowds to the theatre.

For the uninitiated, Raabta was a 2017 action romance film that was released in theatres. The film’s narrative centred around the concept of reincarnation, as a modern couple discovers that they have shared a close bond in former lives. Dinesh Vijan directed the film.

Kriti Sanon discussed the film’s failure and how the team dealt with it in a recent interview with Film Companion. She mentioned that they all came together over a bottle of wine and that she complained to Sushant Singh Rajput about the negative reviews and reactions to the film.

Kriti Sanon said, “It was a funny night. We were all sulking, we were depressed, we’d gone through really bad reviews and we didn’t know what to say. Dino was just like, ‘Aajao yaar, mood kharab hai (Come over, guys, I’m in a bad mood)’. We went there and opened a bottle of wine. Dino said, ‘I think it’s the flashbacks, I should have made it simple. Why did we go tribal?’ Earlier, there was a draft that had a normal raaja-raani. It’s more relatable to people, right? But we felt like we wanted to go a little different… I was having a glass of wine, and I said, ‘I told you this’.”

Kriti Sanon further stated that she does not believe in making excuses such as the audience not understanding the film because it is the job of the entire team to ensure that they do. You can’t say unko samajh nahi aayi (they didn’t understand) while you’re making films for the public. It’s your fault if they don’t comprehend if unko samajh nahi aayi tumhari galti hai (If they don’t understand, it’s your fault). ‘We were ahead of our time,’ you can’t say.
