Diwali comes and the debate on firecrackers begins. Many celebrities have come forward to urge people not to burst firecrackers this Diwali. Producer Rhea Kapoor also took to Instagram Stories, a day before Diwali, to share a message against crackers. She asked everyone to avoid lighting fireworks as part of their celebrations, calling the tradition outdated and “irresponsible.”
“Bursting crackers is not only dated but grossly ignorant, inconsiderate and irresponsible. Stop doing it, it’s so 19-never,” she wrote.
However, Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has her own opinion on it. Kangan who is known for being vocal on almost everything expressed her disagreement on the same. The actor has shared a video of Sadhguru and has said that activists should instead stop using cars for some days to protect the environment.
Commenting on it, Kangana wrote on her Instagram Stories, “He is the man who caused world record of green cover by planting millions of trees.” She added, “Perfect answer to all Diwali environment activists walk to your office don’t use cars for three days.”
Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar on Tuesday appealed to citizens to keep a check on noise and air pollution levels while bursting firecrackers during Diwali. “Crackers are an integral part of Diwali festivities and they should be. However, while bursting crackers, people must keep a check on noise and air pollution levels,” she said.
Meanwhile, on September 15, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal ordered a ban on firecrackers, citing the need to “save lives.” The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has issued an order prohibiting the sale and use of fireworks in the national capital till January 1, 2022. Anyone caught bursting crackers during the campaign would be punished under applicable IPC sections and the Explosives Act.
