EXCLUSIVE: These 5 Bollywood mainstream films that are based on LGBTQ love!

While we do still have a long way to go, the need for all kinds of love to be seen in the mainstream media is apparent. There still lie certain aspects that we’re way behind from where we should be i.e our perception towards the LGBT community. Ayushmann Khurrana’s film Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is a bit entertaining along with portraying an important message. Badhaai Do:
Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar’s upcoming film Badhaai Do revolves around lavender marriage. Raj plays the role of a gay man who gets married to a lesbian. The trailer of the film has been released today, and the movie is bashed to hit the big screens on 11th Feb 2022.

Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui:
In December 2020, Ayushmann Khurrana and Vaani Kapoor starred in Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui. Ayushmann’s character in the film falls in love with Vaani’s character who is a trans-woman. The film received positive reviews, and Vaani was praised a lot for her performance.
Kapoor and Sons:
Kapoor and Sons was a film that revolved around a dysfunctional family who are always fighting with each other but also love each other more than anything in the world. Rahul Kapoor (Fawad Khan) and Arjun Kapoor (Sidharth Malhotra) are two brothers who don’t get along with each other. Things in the family grow even worse Rahul’s mother Sunita Kapoor (Rathna Pathak Shah) is frightened to discover intimate photos of her son and his boyfriend. Fawad Khan‘s performance in the movie was praised a lot.
Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan:
Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan received a mixed response from the critics and did a decent business at the box office. The movie spoke about how a family finds it hard to accept their son’s sexuality.
Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga:
Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga was another mainstream Bollywood LGBT movie. Sonam Kapoor Ahuja played the role of Sweety Chaudhary. The film tells the story of closeted lesbian Sweety Chaudhary and her attempts to come out to her conservative, traditional family. Ever since Sweety was a young girl, she dreamed of being a bride. But, when she grows up, she realizes that although she wants to be a bride, it’s not the same way she imagined.
