Aamir Khan Shares Why He Took on Six Projects at Once: “You Can’t Trust Life; We Might Die Tomorrow”

During the pandemic, Aamir Khan contemplated quitting acting and stepping away from Bollywood. However, his family encouraged him to reconsider this decision. Following the lukewarm reception of his film Laal Singh Chaddha in 2022, Aamir decided to take a break to focus on his family. Upon his return to the industry, he took on an unprecedented six new projects. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he shared that this decision stemmed from the realization that he might only have about ten active years left in his career, stating, “we might die tomorrow.”

Aamir admitted that he had never before taken on so many projects at once. He explained that this urgency was fueled by his belief that these could be his final years in the industry. When his ex-wife, Kiran Rao, pointed to Clint Eastwood as an example of an actor who remains active well into his 90s, Aamir acknowledged Eastwood’s exceptional case, noting that such longevity is rare.He elaborated, “You can’t trust life; we might die tomorrow. I am 59, and I hope to be productive until I’m 70.” This perspective led him to aim for a highly productive decade ahead. Aamir also expressed a desire to support emerging talent, including writers and directors, before he eventually retires.

In the interview, he humorously reflected on his retirement plans, recalling a moment when he almost shared them with his family. Kiran mentioned that their daughter jokingly said, “Please, papa, you can’t spend all your time with us; we will go crazy.” Aamir fondly embraced the idea of retirement, envisioning a life filled with reading and practicing yoga, while still feeling a strong commitment to his craft and the next generation of filmmakers.
