Aamir Khan Plans YouTube Pay-Per-View Release for Sitaare Zameen Par Eight Weeks After Theatrical Run

In a groundbreaking move that could redefine traditional digital release models, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan is considering a Pay-Per-View (PPV) release for his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par on YouTube. This innovative strategy would take place approximately eight weeks after its theatrical premiere on June 20, 2025, allowing audiences to access the film without the need for a subscription to conventional OTT platforms.
Directed by R.S. Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par is being hailed as a spiritual successor to Khan’s critically acclaimed Taare Zameen Par (2007) and addresses themes of mental health and inclusivity. The decision to explore a YouTube PPV model aligns with Khan’s legacy of innovation and his commitment to creating meaningful cinema that reaches a broad audience.
A trade source shared insights with Bollywood Hungama, stating, “Aamir has always believed in pushing boundaries—not only in content but also in how films are delivered to audiences. With Sitaare Zameen Par, he’s considering a model that allows for wider access without tying viewers to specific OTT subscriptions. If successful, this could pave the way for filmmakers seeking to maintain creative control and revenue shares.
This strategy reflects a growing sentiment in the industry that alternative release models, particularly direct-to-consumer digital platforms, may provide filmmakers with greater autonomy and improved financial returns. Earlier, Mr. Perfectionist released the poster of the film, which we shared earlier as it went viral on different social media platforms.
For Khan, who has consistently taken unconventional approaches to storytelling and marketing, this initiative could represent a significant step in transforming how Bollywood engages with its global audience. As excitement builds for the film’s theatrical release, all eyes are on how this YouTube experiment will unfold and whether it could herald a broader shift in post-theatrical film distribution.
