Is Aamir Khan the new global box office king?

Aamir Khan box office king

If you look at Bollywood, undoubtedly, the top three Khans- Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan rule this industry. They are superstars of this world, who all are not only recognised in India but all across the world. They have fans of whopping numbers and all have toiled hard to secure this position. Talking about the fan following and popularity of all the three Khans, Shah Rukh Khan has been at the forefront followed by Salman and Aamir. In other words, these three Khans have ruled the box office, well; let’s see how things have changed past two years as under giving a new winner in this stream.

Change of wind

In the 2000’s SRK simply dominated over the global market landscape with his big blockbuster movies, however, in past one or two years, there has been some paradigm shift. The reigns of high global box office collection seems to be turning from Shah Rukh Khan to Aamir Khan. Together Shah Rukh Khan ruled this segment with huge collection from his films like Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, OSO, My Name is Khan, RaOne, etc, however, with Dhoom 3 and now PK, Aamir Khan has simply changed the equation. And talking about Salman Khan, hedoesnt have too many movies to compete in this list.

The emerging Khan

Since the release of Dhoom 3, the collection for the Aamir Khan starrer tolled to around 542 crores, which was not the case with any other movies of Shah Rukh Khan. Individually looking at the bigger movies of the Khans and others, you can sum like this – Shah Rukh Khan has 5 movies, Aamir Khan has 3 movies, Salman Khan has one and so has the stylish actor – Hrithik Roshan. Looking at the global collection figures of Aamir Khan, you can find SRK to be lagging behind. For insthance, Dhoom 3 earned 28 million dollars, while 3 Idiots earned 26 million dollars, now PK is gearing up and soon would surpass these numbers to emerge out as the top grosser not only in India but also in the international market. In terms of percentage of collection or ROI (Return on Investment), Aamir Khan is very much close to Shah Rukh Khan.

Wrapping up

Though currently Shah Rukh Khan is leading with 44 percent (80 million USD), while Aamir Khan is slightly behind with 43 percent (78 million USD), but the fact as the movie PK is still running without any competition, Mr. Perfectionist is going to beat King Khan for sure in terms of collection. Hence it may not be wrong to claim that Mr. Perfectionist – Aamir Khan with just three movies in his basket and figures of 20 plus million USD each will finally emerge out as the winner of the global box office race.
