Webseries: controversy ends over ‘Queen’, Madras HC dismisses plea

Queen

Public interest litigation was filed in the Madras High Court regarding the webseries based on the late Chief Minister Jailalitha. In which this webseries was sought to be banned. The court has dismissed this petition on Friday.

According to the judges
The petition filed by PA Joseph was rejected by justices M. Satyanarayanan and R.K. Hemlata. The judges dismissed this petition on the grounds that the action taken by the ECI would not apply to the facts of the present case, where the web serial could be viewed only after downloading a particular mobile app. In addition, the makers of the web series had a disclaimer that it was not a biopic.

He says that this series cannot affect the voting pattern. Because people do not vote on this basis. Rather, they vote based on the candidate’s ability. The judges said, “It cannot be said that voters will exercise their franchise solely on the basis of political personality.”

Joseph said
PA Joseph said that web series should not be allowed during local body elections, such as a Hindi film by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not allowed to be released by the Election Commission of India during the parliamentary elections last year.
