‘King Akela Hi Kaafi Hai’: Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘King’ Demands Massive Screen Allocation Ahead of Christmas Box Office Clash

Exhibitors and film distributors across India are bracing for a major box office showdown this Christmas as Shah Rukh Khan’s action thriller King prepares to compete for screen allocation against Hollywood tentpole Avengers: Doomsday. With theatrical distribution negotiations ramping up, distributor Pen Marudhar has initiated aggressive steps to secure a record-breaking release footprint for the Indian feature.
According to trade sources, Pen Marudhar has reached out to theater owners across key territories to demand maximum showcasing starting December 24, 2026. Emphasizing the project’s scale, the distributor has urged exhibitors to prioritize screen count and show timings for King over major Hollywood properties, advocating a strategy framed around the motto “King Akela Hi Kaafi Hai”—demanding more screens than upcoming releases like Avengers, Dune, and Jumanji combined.
Simultaneously, Disney India has begun negotiating terms with single screens and multiplex chains to safeguard a substantial show-share for Avengers: Doomsday. “Disney is aiming to sign a strict contract promising a specified number of prime shows on Christmas Day,” an industry insider disclosed. “Exhibitors are bullish on the film and are working to ensure fair showcasing for the Hollywood title during the holiday period.”
The standoff places exhibitors in an intense bargaining position as both distribution entities fight for dominance across single screens and multiplex auditoriums. King marks Shah Rukh Khan’s return to feature films following a three-year hiatus, driving massive commercial expectations among domestic trade analysts.
While Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to open earlier on December 17, 2026, King is set to hit theaters globally on December 24. With both Pen Marudhar and Disney pushing for extensive theatrical real estate, show-sharing negotiations are expected to escalate significantly as the holiday season approaches.
