Nana Patekar Cremated at Pune Farmhouse with Full State Honours; Son Malhar Performs Last Rites

Veteran actor Nana Patekar was cremated at his Donje farmhouse in Pune on Thursday, October 8, 2026, following his sudden passing earlier that morning. In recognition of his monumental contributions to Indian cinema and his extensive social welfare work, the actor was accorded full state honours, as announced by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. CM Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde were among those who paid their respects to the late icon at Pune airport.
Though Nana Patekar passed away in Goa, his mortal remains were brought to Pune in fulfillment of his personal wishes. His son, Malhar Patekar, performed the last rites and lit the funeral pyre in the presence of close family, friends, and industry colleagues. Prominent film fraternity figures, including actor Jackie Shroff, producer Sajid Nadiadwala, and filmmaker Anil Sharma, attended the ceremony to bid a final farewell. The state funeral honored both his legendary acting career and his noble public service through the Naam Foundation, which he co-founded with Makarand Anaspure to assist drought-stricken farmers across Maharashtra.

The Padma Shri recipient passed away at the age of 75 in the early hours of Thursday. Patekar suffered a severe cardiac arrest at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa. After being found unresponsive, he was rushed to Manipal Hospital, where emergency doctors attempted resuscitation for nearly 45 minutes. However, efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, and he was officially declared dead at approximately 5:20 AM IST.
