Siddharth P Malhotra Announces ‘Ikka’ Sequel and ‘Shaque’ Season 2 Following Massive Streaming Success

Producer-director Siddharth P Malhotra is celebrating a triumphant 2026 on Netflix. Following the standout success of his film Ikka, starring Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna, his newly released thriller series Shaque: Trust No One has also turned into a massive hit. In an exclusive interview, Malhotra confirmed that sequels for both major properties are officially in active development.
According to Malhotra, Ikka 2 is currently being written, while Shaque Season 2 will feature an entirely new storyline rather than continuing the original narrative. Creator Rensil D’Silva originally conceptualized Shaque as a feature film nearly nine years ago, but the team later reformatted it into a series upon realizing its episodic potential before pitching it to Netflix.
The Parineeti Chopra-starrer has dominated the streaming charts, holding the top spot for over a week and ranking among the top 10 titles in 20 to 30 countries. Malhotra revealed he has never received such overwhelming industry praise for a project, noting that Netflix executives and viewers alike have responded enthusiastically. Despite the risk of social media spoilers revealing the central whodunit mystery, audience engagement remains exceptionally strong, which Malhotra views as a testament to the compelling writing.
Malhotra also addressed managing lead actor Parineeti Chopra’s pregnancy during production. Chopra revealed her pregnancy after filming began, leading Malhotra and co-producer Sapna Malhotra to adjust schedules and logistics so she could remain comfortably on location. He praised Chopra’s dedication to completing the shoot, emphasizing that ensuring her safety and comfort was their primary responsibility.
Reflecting on his diverse directorial portfolio—spanning Hichki, Tribhanga, Maharaj, and Ikka, Malhotra shared that he does not consciously avoid specific genres. Instead, he focuses on complex human relationships across different settings. He concluded by praising his long-standing collaboration with Netflix VP of Content Monika Shergill and her team, attributing the ongoing success of his streaming lineup to strong creative synergy and seamless teamwork.
