CBFC Censors Explicit Dialogues, ‘Rajasthan’ Reference, and Middle Finger Visuals in Ram Charan-Janhvi Kapoor Starrer Peddi

The highly expected pan-India entertainer Peddi is fully locked and loaded for its grand theatrical release on June 4, with the production team wrapping up the censor certification process well in advance. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has officially cleared the film’s original Telugu version, but not without mandating a series of strict audio mutings, political modifications, and visual blurring.

The CBFC passed Peddi with a U/A 16+ certificate, requiring a handful of changes to its dialogue and select visuals before issuing the final clearance.

Key Audio Mutes and Dialogue Alterations

The censor board cracked down heavily on explicit profanities, regional slangs, and specific geographical references across the film’s script. Strong language and local expletives including ‘Mr Cd’*, ‘Loudesh’, ‘Bokka’, ‘Lambdi kodaka’, ‘Dongamunda kodaka’, and ‘Kalchi padi denguta’were ordered to be muted or completely replaced with milder alternatives. In a notable second-half edit, the board ordered the total removal of the word ‘Rajasthan’ along with a specific community reference to avoid any potential real-world controversies. Even the film’s soundtrack faced scrutiny; the lyric phrase ‘Saruku saman’ in the mass dance number ‘Chikiri Chikiri’ had to be modified.

Visual Edits and Runtime Details

In a major relief for action enthusiasts, the CBFC did not impose any visual cuts on the raw action sequences, leaving the high-octane violence and stunts completely intact.

The Only Visual Alteration: The makers were instructed to utilize computer graphics (CG) to completely cover up a shot featuring a middle finger gesture.

Once these compliance changes were integrated, the final censor certificate was handed over to the producers on May 22. The document reveals that Peddi locks in a massive, epic-scale theatrical runtime of 189.00 minutes (3 hours and 9 minutes).

Cast, Crew, and Behind-the-Scenes Injuries

Peddi boasts an incredible pan-India ensemble featuring Ram Charan, Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu, and Boman Irani. Written and directed by Buchi Babu Sana (Uppena), the film features a soundtrack by Academy Award-winner A.R. Rahman. The project is produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru, co-produced by Ishan Saksena, and will see a massive rollout across North India via Jio Studios, including premium IMAX formats.
