Kartik Aaryan’s ‘Captain India’ Set for Independence Day 2027 Release
After years of development and anticipation, Kartik Aaryan’s aviation-themed drama, Captain India, has officially secured a theatrical release date. The film is scheduled to hit cinemas on August 13, 2027, strategically positioned to capitalize on the Independence Day holiday weekend. Presented by T-Series and Baweja Studios in association with Midnight Chai Films Ltd., the project has undergone several creative evolutions since its initial announcement in 2021. A major highlight of the project is the return of director Shimit Amin to the director’s chair, marking his first feature film in 17 years. Amin is highly regarded for his small but impactful filmography, which includes the gritty crime drama Ab Tak Chhappan, the iconic sports drama Chak De! India, and the cult classic workplace story Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year.
The film is set to be a large-scale production, with a shoot schedule expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026. Filming is planned across various sites in India and Morocco to capture the scope of its action-thriller setup. The creative team, led by writer and producer Harman Baweja, has crafted a story reportedly inspired by true events involving a high-stakes rescue mission. Kartik Aaryan will step into the cockpit to play the role of a pilot, taking on a character rooted in real-world heroism.

When Captain India was first unveiled in 2021, filmmaker Hansal Mehta was originally attached to direct. The move to Shimit Amin signals a significant tonal and creative shift for the film, blending Amin’s realistic storytelling style with high-octane spectacle. This project joins a crowded and diverse lineup for Aaryan, who is also working on Naagzilla with director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba and an untitled musical saga with Anurag Basu expected in late 2026. With its patriotic backdrop, aviation focus, and the collaboration between a modern star and a veteran director, Captain India is poised to be one of the biggest cinematic events of 2027.
