Mani Shankar Announces ‘16 December’ Sequel: “As Original and Relevant as the First”
Twenty-four years after the techno-thriller 16 December redefined the Indian spy genre, director and engineer Mani Shankar has officially announced that a sequel is in the works. The original film was famously ahead of its time, predicting technologies like 3D holography, AI image enhancement, and ethical hacking long before they became mainstream.

Talking about the prequel, it was released in 2002, 16 December set a new benchmark for Bollywood by integrating futuristic surveillance tools into a gritty, street-level story. It remains one of the most influential films in the genre, introducing concepts that are now industry standards:
