Legal Battle Over ‘Hera Pheri 3’ Ownership Intensifies

The beloved Hera Pheri franchise is currently stuck in a major legal battle over who actually owns the series. Producer Vijay Kumar is claiming “100 percent” ownership of the Intellectual Property (IP), bringing a court case against producer Firoz Nadiadwala. In a recent interview, Kumar alleged that the rights have always belonged to his side and that even the 2006 sequel, Phir Hera Pheri, was made without his official permission.
The dispute traces back to the original agreement for the Hindi remake of the Malayalam film Ramji Rao Speaking. Kumar claims that Nadiadwala was only granted a one-time right to remake the first Hera Pheri in 2000. He alleges that the second film was an unauthorized violation and that the situation reached a breaking point when Nadiadwala tried to sell or transfer the project for a third installment, leading to a formal lawsuit.
While the court process is ongoing, Kumar expressed confidence that the final ruling will be in his favor. He has accused the opposing side of intentionally slowing down the legal proceedings through repeated delays and missed appearances. Despite the tension, Kumar admitted that the “Hera Pheri” name is a massive brand and believes that keeping the original trio of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal is the best move for the business once the legal issues are settled.
For fans, this means the long-awaited third film is still on hold. Director Priyadarshan recently confirmed that because of these complicated legal and music rights issues, Hera Pheri 3 will not begin filming in 2026. The future of the project now depends entirely on the court’s final decision regarding who truly owns the rights to the franchise.
