SS Rajamouli Sets New Benchmarks with Rs. 1300 Crore Budget for Mahesh Babu’s Varanasi

SS Rajamouli is once again pushing the boundaries of Indian cinema with his upcoming directorial Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj. The film’s first teaser has already created a massive buzz worldwide, leaving audiences eager for more. Now, an exclusive reveal confirms that Varanasi is being made on a staggering budget of Rs. 1300 crore, excluding print and publicity costs.
Despite this enormous figure, insiders say the budget is relatively modest compared to other grand-scale projects like A6 and Ramayana, which reportedly have budgets ranging from Rs. 1500 to 2000 crore. Yet, Rajamouli’s vision for Varanasi promises to surpass these films in scale and spectacle, all while maintaining cost efficiency. Known for his meticulous planning, Rajamouli has designed some of the film’s most epic sequences in advance, ensuring a smooth and organized shooting process.
“He is one of the most well-organized directors in Indian cinema, executing scenes based on detailed pre-visualization rather than improvising on set,” a trade source explained. This approach not only saves time and money but also guarantees a grand cinematic experience. The grandeur extends beyond the film itself. The recent Globetrotter event, promoting Varanasi, reportedly cost Rs. 20 crore, making it one of the biggest promotional events ever held in India.
This scale of ambition signals that Varanasi aims to set new standards in every aspect.Scheduled for release in 2027, Varanasi is shaping up to be a landmark film that will redefine Indian cinema’s scale and storytelling, reaffirming SS Rajamouli’s reputation as a visionary filmmaker.
