Allahabad High Court Rejects Plea Against Release of Jolly LLB 3

The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition seeking to ban the release of Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi’s upcoming film Jolly LLB 3, offering significant relief to the filmmakers. The plea also demanded action against the film’s song Bhai Vakeel Hai, claiming it defamed the judiciary and the legal profession.

A division bench, comprising Justice Sangeeta Chandra and Justice Brij Raj Singh, found no objectionable content in the song’s lyrics, trailer, or teaser. The court stated, “We do not see any material that warrants interference. After reviewing the lyrics of Bhai Vakeel Hai, we find nothing that could hinder the practice of the legal profession by genuine advocates.” Consequently, the petition was rejected without imposing any costs.

Earlier, on August 20, a Pune court issued notices to actors Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi in connection with the film, following a complaint by lawyer Wajid Khan Bidkar. Bidkar alleged that Jolly LLB 3 ridicules the judicial system and court proceedings, specifically objecting to a scene where judges are called “mamu,” a colloquial slang term. The court has summoned Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi to appear on September 28.In May 2024, the film faced another challenge when Chandrabhan, President of the Ajmer District Bar Association, filed a complaint accusing the franchise of portraying the Indian judiciary in poor taste. He described the depiction of lawyers and judges as “humorous and indecent” and requested a halt to the film’s shooting.

Speaking to NBT, Chandrabhan said, “This decision is based on the first two parts of Jolly LLB. It appears the filmmakers and actors do not respect the dignity and prestige of our judiciary. The shooting continues in villages around Ajmer, including the DRM office, without regard for the judiciary’s image or dignity.”The Jolly LLB franchise began in 2013, with the original starring Arshad Warsi and Saurabh Shukla. The 2017 sequel featured Akshay Kumar in the lead role alongside Huma Qureshi.

The third installment, Jolly LLB 3, produced by Star Studio18 and directed by Subhash Kapoor, brings together a strong ensemble cast including Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Saurabh Shukla, Huma Qureshi, Amrita Rao, and Gajraj Rao.
