Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana Producer Says It Would Be a ‘Failure’ If the West Doesn’t Like It

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and starring Ranbir Kapoor alongside Yash, Ramayana is poised to become the most expensive Indian film ever made. Produced by Namit Malhotra of Prime Focus Studios, this ambitious two-part epic has a massive combined budget of ₹4,000 crore. With a star-studded cast, international collaborators, and cutting-edge technology, Namit aims to elevate Indian mythology onto the global cinematic stage.
In a recent interview with the LA Times, Namit made it clear that his vision for Ramayana is truly global. “It’s a global film from day one. I’m not trying to just appease Indian audiences… Whether you’re watching Ramayana with your family in India or anywhere else, it should resonate the same way — like any other great film,” he explained. Namit emphasized that the film is crafted to connect with both believers and non-believers, transcending religious and cultural divides.
He boldly compared Ramayana to Hollywood blockbusters like Avatar, Gladiator, and Christopher Nolan’s works. “If people in the West don’t like it, I consider that a failure. It’s meant for the world. If you don’t like it, shame on me — we should have done a better job,” he stated candidly.Director Nitesh Tiwari echoed this sentiment, underlining the universal power of emotions in storytelling. “Emotions are universal. If the audience connects emotionally, they will connect with the story, no matter where they’re from,” he said.
