The 67th Grammy Awards nominations have ignited excitement within the Indian music scene, highlighting a rich tapestry of both established and emerging artists. This year’s ceremony is set to be a landmark event for Indian music, showcasing the talents of prominent figures alongside fresh faces who have made their mark in various categories. Notable Indian artists including Ricky Kej, Anoushka Shankar, and Varijashree Venugopal are among those who have received nominations.
At the forefront is Ricky Kej, a two-time Grammy winner celebrated for his innovative fusion of world music and contemporary sounds. His album, Break of Dawn, has earned him a nomination in the esteemed Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album category. This recognition marks his third consecutive nomination in this category, having previously won in 2022 for Divine Tides (in collaboration with Stewart Copeland) and again in 2023 for the immersive audio version of the same album.
Sitar virtuoso Anoushka Shankar also garnered a nomination in the Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album category for her work, Chapter II: How Dark It Is Before Dawn. Also, she received a second nomination for her collaborative effort with British multi-instrumentalist Jacob Collier on the song “A Rock Somewhere.” This enchanting track features Bengaluru-based vocalist and flautist Varijashree Venugopal, who is competing for her first Grammy nomination in the Best Global Music Performance category, marking a significant milestone in her burgeoning career. Interestingly, Varijashree’s talents also contributed to Kej’s nominated album, Break of Dawn.
