Complaint filed against Anurag Kashyap’s Ghost Story of Netflix under the new IT rule 2021
Anurag Kashyap and controversies are old buddies. The filmmakers make headlines every other day for some different reasons. Now in a recent update, the filmmaker is facing issues regarding his film.
Anurag Kashyap directed one of the stories in the Netflix anthology ‘Ghost Stories’. The film was released last year on the digital platform. The film becomes the first to fall under the Information Technology (Guidelines for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021. The act was framed in February this year by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
According to the report in Mid-day, the complaint said objection on some scenes on the short film. The film contains a scene where Sobhita Dhulipala’s character eats a foetus after suffering a miscarriage. The complaint notes, “The scene is not required for the story, and if the creators wished to add such a scene, there should have been a trigger warning for women who have gone through the trauma of miscarriages.”
The report quoted Netflix India spokesperson as saying, “As this was a partner-managed production [RSVP Movies and Flying Unicorn Entertainment], we reached out to the production company to share the complaint.”
Reacting to the complaint Anurag Kayshap wrote on his Instagram as reported by several portals, “So it has started… A complaint came to Netflix on Ghost Stories. This is the end.”
Released in 2020 ‘Ghost Stories’, is an anthology of four short films directed by Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee, Anurag Kashayp and Karan Johar.
