I am 44 and I have stopped listening to people and their opinions: Karan Johar

We all know about the war-of-words between Karan Johar and Kangana Ranaut. We are also aware of how Kangana’s remark of calling Karan the flag-bearer of nepotism snowballed and everyone from the film fraternity got involved with their version of nepotism. But looks like, after his babies, Yash and Roohi, the filmmaker is seeking solace and staying away from all the controversies.

Recently, Karan Johar was spotted at the book launch of sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and he said, “I have stopped worrying about the ramification or what others say. You have to basically become deaf because today opinions are available everywhere. You wake up to opinions, sleep and you’re reading opinions. Adding, “People have a lot of time in the world to give you their opinion, it’s what you choose to take in or not to. I have decided, you can call it a good mid-life crisis, I am 44 and I don’t listen to people anymore.”

In an interview to a leading daily, on being asked about his movie choices, Karan said, “When I began my career, I didn’t take many risks because the first two films I directed and my father produced, the whole idea there was to seek commerce in art. My intention was to make sure Dharma productions could stand tall and gain the economic strength which we hadn’t before. It is only in the last decade and ironically after I lost my father, I grew wings. His constant emotional surveillance may not have allowed me to take few chances in cinema.”
