25 Years After Lagaan: Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowariker’s Next Is Titled Lalkaar
A quarter-century after creating cinematic history with the Oscar-nominated Lagaan, superstar Aamir Khan and director Ashutosh Gowariker are officially reuniting. The duo is teaming up for another massive sports drama, and the highly anticipated project finally has a title: Lalkaar.
Scheduled to go on floors in October 2026, the film is a biographical drama based on the legendary life of Indian cricketer Lala Amarnath, set against the turbulent backdrop of the 1947 Partition between India and Pakistan.

Industry insiders reveal that the title was chosen to evoke the same epic scale and emotional resonance as their previous collaboration while promising a completely fresh narrative.
“After Lagaan, it’s time for Lalkaar,” a reliable source told Bollywood Hungama. “The title instills instant recall to their cult classic, and also promises something new. Much like Lagaan, this one too is a strong emotional saga set against the backdrop of cricket.”

Now, talking about the writers, the screenplay is being penned by the blockbuster duo Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi (3 Idiots, PK, Sanju).
Now, talking about the producers, the film will be produced under Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s banner, Excel Entertainment. The star cast has been interesting. While Aamir Khan leads the project, the makers are currently on the hunt to cast a prominent actor for the second lead character. An official announcement regarding the final casting is expected to drop soon.
