Dil Dhadakne Do Movie Review : Too many Elements Made Things Go Haywire

Dil Dhadakne Do review

Dil Dhadakne Do is all set to release this Friday amidst the loud buzz for the film has created in the media. The movie falls under a comedy drama, revolving around the family of Mehras and the dysfunctional issues, which the family is known to have. The lead roles in the film include Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah, Anushka Sharma and Rahul Bose. The film is directed by Zoya Akhtar, while it is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under the banner of Excel Entertainment in association with Junglee Pictures. The story comes from Zoya and Farhan Akhtar along with Reema Kagti, while the music comes from the trio music directors – Shankar- Ehsan-Loy, while the run time of the film is of 170 minutes, which is around 3 hours. Now, let’s dig deep into the film to find out what goes inside the film.

Dil dhadakne Do Review : Story Line

Unlike Zoya’s earlier movie, DDD too revolves around the elite class family and their issues. You have the Mehras a rich family from Punjab who come along at the cruise to have good time but never comes out from their loop of dysfunctional issues, which their family is pitted with. Kabir Mehra played by Ranveer Singh is a rich kid born with a silver spoon. His parents Kamal Mehra played by Anil Kapoor and Neelam Mehra played by Shefali Shah wants him to marry a girl of a rich family like Nuri played by Ridhima Sud who is their family friend from a rich family. However, Kabir is away from these things and want to pursue his dream of flying planes and to become a pilot. Soon, he meets up Farah Ali who is a performer over the cruise played by Anushka Sharma.

The two come closer despite being two different personalities. Priyanka Chopra (Ayesha Mehra) is the sibling of Ranveer and wants to separate from her husband Rahul Bose. She once loved Sunny Gill (Farhan Akhtar) who is also on the cruise. The family is on the cruise to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Amidst all the so called classy affair of the elite families over the cruise, Neelam Mehra announces the engagement of her son with Nuri. The other reason why the Mehra’s want a rich family is that soon they will be in their bankruptcy, and striking the chord right on time by making their son marry a rich girl can help them to be taken care by Kabir’s in laws. This creates loads of confusion among the actors of key roles. What happens at the end is interesting to catch, whether Kabir bows down to the wishes of his parents or convinces them to get settled down with Farah can be only found out when you catch the film.

Dil dhadakne Do Review : Star Performances

Let’s start with the script. Though the script seems to be a straight about the family of Mehras and their bitchy buddies who have come over the luxurious Mediterranean cruise defying their future bankruptcy problems but seems to be pitted with flaws and dysfunctions. The movie intends to show the dysfunction witnessed among the family, however, was seen pitted with the same in the script and story giving too many confusions allowing fewer people to enjoy. The story has some content in it but soon it gets lost in the confusion created in it among the family members who are seen wooing and pursuing their own vested interests. Now, if we talk about the performance, no one seems to be par with the characters the film has. Except a few like Anil and Farhan or even PC, everyone seems to have failed to touch the edge of the character, which hampers the film very much badly. The film starts with a good first half but as it passes in the second half, it loses the grip giving too many loo breaks to the audience.

Dil dhadakne Do Review : Technical Elements

The idea of taking too many stars in a film just to make it big over the box office can be a good idea though, but if things fail to work everything seems haywire and Dil Dhadakne Do is a classic example to this. The idea of Farhan singing most of its song and one with Priyanka seems failing. He is not seen with the same magic he created with his earlier films be it Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara or some other one. It gives the idea how bad any bathroom singer can be with these two actors trying to give their voices for their characters in DDD. However, there is no problem with the lyrics after all it comes from the legends like Javed Akhtar. There are certain unwanted family sequences wherein Kamal is seen with his sarcasm about his wife’s weight, Kabir supporting the decision of his sister’s divorce, Neelam crying for a chocolate, while the man at the top making an issue of bills and pills. All appear too artificial and superficial. However, at times Anil seems to be incredible while playing the character assigned to him. The other problem with the film is too many cameos, several clashes and confessions together make the film boring. Though there was not many flaws with technical elements, yet the crux of the film seems to be missing.

Dil Dhadakne Do Review Last Words

Too many stars seems wrecking havoc in the film. The story starts at a lighter and cool note, however, it loses all its ground becoming abnormal and dysfunctional in the midst. This loses the interest of the audience, which may not like to last long inside the theatres catching up the film. The good thing is that you can find some of the best locations but all these elements come without the soul, which is nothing but the story of the film. All your vigor, excitement and glee for catching up the so called Zoya Akhtar movie can go haywire once you come to catch up this film in your nearest theatres just because too many people have messed up with the film, which gives a poor show at the end.
