Plot

The film is made at the backdrop of 1975 talking about rebels and ravines found in the valleys of Chambal but it comes without the typical trappings. The film tells the life the dacoit lives and the combat between the Police and dacoit, so what really goes behind the show is interesting to catch in the nearby theatre.

Review

The film is gritty, haunting, engaging, disturbing and incredibly entertaining. Abhishek Chaubey does it again as he did while doing Udta Punjab. One may find the film to be set in the heartland, but on the other way, it is been shot with a new style. The makers have tried to capture the real soul of Chambal very nicely. The beauty of Abhishek’s direction is that he never waste any time and stays at one point right from start to finish. The only downside one can find in the film is that in the first half the film drags at some junctures allowing people to take look breaks. One of the striking features of this film is the incredible performances given by the lead actors including Manoj Bajpayee playing the rebel gang leader called Man Singh, Ashutosh Rana as Virender Singh Gujjar, the ruthless police inspector who remains behind the gang to finish them is simply awesome in his performance. Same goes with Sushant Singh Rajput who is a natural actor and have proved the same.

And then we have Bhumi Pednekar who seemed a complete natural package in the movie. On the other side, Ranvir Shorey has stolen the show while playing the hot-headed rebel in the movie. Perhaps we can say the casting director of the film has done an excellent job in roping in the right actors for the different roles. The other key highlight of the film is the number of dialogues of the film that goes fantastic and remain the USP of the Abhishek’s films. The other elements like direction, screenplay, editing, cinematography and music seemed good and have helped to boost up the overall entertainment value.

Sonchiriya The Last Word

The film Sonchiriya despite being a technically sound film with incredible performances and other elements happen to be a niche film that can only attract an audience with such taste. However, if you happen to be a fan of Ashutosh Rana or Manoj Bajpapyee and then catching this film would be a religious fervour for you.
