Bombay HC reserved its decision on Salman Khan’s appeal against a civil court in the defamation case

The Bombay High Court has delayed its decision on Salman Khan’s petition against a Mumbai court that declined to grant him interim relief in a defamation case brought against his Panvel farmhouse neighbour Ketan Kakkar.

A Mumbai sessions court has previously declined to issue a restraining order against Ketan Kakkar. Salman then petitioned the Bombay High Court. After hearing the case on Tuesday, the High Court reserved its decision. The decision will be made soon.

Ketan’s social media statements regarding Salman Khan and his family were slanderous, according to the actor. Salman said in his petition to the High Court that Ketan’s tweets are not only defamatory and disparaging to him, but also communally prejudiced and create a communal rift.

Salman owns a 100-acre farm in Panvel, while Ketan owns the land next door. Ketan has claimed on social media that Salman and his family engage in unlawful activities at the farm, as well as encroachment on the actor’s side.

Notably, Ketan claims that he and his wife purchased a block of property near Salman’s residence in 1995. He went on to say that the block of land granted to him was allegedly cancelled at the behest and in conjunction with Salman by the Maharashtra forest department. He alleged that the access and departure points to his parcel of land were unlawfully obtained and restricted by Salman’s construction of a gate. He further claimed Salman and his family desecrated a Ganpati shrine he had constructed on the land.

Salman said in his lawsuit that the defendants are encouraging communal violence and Hindu-Muslim animosity by making aggressive, unsubstantiated, and misleading religious comments that are completely irrelevant and nonsensical.

In March, the Sessions Court refused to issue an injunction against Ketan in Salman’s defamation complaint based on the latter’s social media remarks. The judgement labelled Ketan’s conduct as those of a whistleblower, adding that he had filed complaints and show-cause notices against Salman about charges of encroachment on his Panvel land. Salman filed a petition with the Bombay High Court in August.
