Marta Romashina is a Russian photographer and journalist with a flair for fashion.

Marta Romashina is a multifaceted artist, she’s been a photographer, art director, and journalist while relocating from Moscow, Prague, Shanghai, Bangkok, Florence, and Singapore.

Born in Penza, Russia (4th November 1989), she moved to Prague, Czechia at the age of sixteen to study finance. She spent seven years in this beautiful medieval city, mainly working in the financial sector when she finally realized she leans toward the creative profession. So, she decided to take on her other aspiration and become a part of the fashion industry. With this goal, she moved to Shanghai to pursue her undergraduate degree in fashion marketing at Raffles Design Institute. After earning her degree, she headed to Bangkok to work as a fashion merchandiser. She enjoyed the fashion world so much that she decided to earn her Master’s in Fashion Buying from the famous Polimoda school in Florence, Italy.

In a span of several years in the fashion industry, she had an opportunity to work with many talented designers, like legendary Hussein Chalayan, across Europe and Asia, while organizing various fashion shows including Shanghai and Paris Fashion Week.

After traveling all over and realizing how invigorating that is, she thought, why not do that for a living? That was the moment when changed gears again and in 2018 she launched her travel blog www(dot)wheremartawent(dot)com where she shares her travel journey with her wanderlust followers. The sleek aesthetics of her Instagram @wheremartawent attracted more than 80k followers. As a leader in the travel industry, she writes articles for several publications, including L’Officiel and Elle magazines.

While many artists downsized their work during the pandemic, Marta chose a different path: she instead started making self-portraits at home during lockdowns that eventually got on the cover of Italian magazine Mob Journal.  “Evolving, changing, and adapting is the true nature of an artist.” Since then she never stopped taking pictures and developing herself as a fashion photographer.

Informed by her background in the fashion business, Marta’s photography practice combines academic research with an interest in social issues. Her aesthetics are highly influenced by her life in Asia: bright colors, unusual angles, and a sense of surreality.

Marta’s commercial work was published in magazines like ELLE, Harper’s Bazaar and L’Officiel name a few. She was one of the top finalists of Prix Picto de la Photographie de Mode in 2021, a fashion photography award in Paris for young talents. Her work was evaluated by Jean Paul Gaultier and Paolo Roversi.

From 18 August until 29 September 2022 we will have a chance not only to enjoy her artistic work but also purchase her prints at the Association for Visual Arts in Cape Town, South Africa. Her fine art photography will be exhibited during the First Thursdays 10 Year Anniversary. During this famous event art galleries around the city stay open until late evenings, allowing anyone to experience the cultural wealth this city has to offer.

From 23 September until 5 October 2022 her work will be showcased at Blank Wall Gallery, an Athens-based art space.

She currently has her own production team and has been working on recent projects with her colleague Oleg Tarasenko. Their creations are very poetic, images are enchanting and at the same time, she also likes to bring contemporary culture to the narrative.
