Plot
The film is an extension of the 2009 film of the same time with Kartik and Sara Ali Khan playing the roles Veer and Zoe respectively. Like the previous version, the 2020 film also was made on similar lines with to love stories one contemporary and the other old went side by side showcasing the love of two-generation eras. The story starts with Veer and Zoe meeting in a cafe owned by Raj played by Randeep. Raj helps them to come closer by sharing his life real-life incidents of the nineties where he had a simple version of love. The film is all about how the stories from different eras have something in common thus defining their own version of love.
Review
The film starts with a quote of Rumi which somewhere defines the script of the film. This time he has used Rumi’s way of looking at love and then explores the different layers of emotions at length which remains still new for the filmmaker. However, the issue erupts when all are seen getting serious even for the level of Imtiaz. In short, this film is something that can be cherished forever but it would not be fair to recommend all as it can be emotionally exhausting for many people.
Now talking about the Star Performance, Kartik Aryan has aced the narration he has got from Ali. However, at times he breaks the rules set by Imtiaz in his film but does it well to set the tone that remains his own and not of Imtiaz. On the other side, Sara was seen growing with every single sequence. However, there are some hits and misses, but playing characters of two different types at the same time can have their own challenges which he has tried to defy a lot. Randeep Hooda in his cameo has done his job rightfully while Arushi Sharma seemed more natural than anyone perhaps doing a good debut.
Talking about the other elements like Direction, Music, photography and other elements, the film score high. Imtiaz is a competent director and this time he has taken the story to the next level. He seemed using a bit of every single film in LAK and aced in it while narrating the story. The only issue with Imtiaz’s direction is he loves to take a risk and travels the path less traveled by him. Music has remained the key USP in Imitiaz Ali ‘s film and so is Love Aaj Kal. Pritam has given some of the best music for all the tracks, while elements like photography, editing, and other technical elements also seemed good.

With all said and done, Love Aaj Kal can be a wild ride taken by Imtiaz all with the pain to give love a new meaning. If you are the heartbroken person it can have lessons for you.
