Here’s what Anurag Kashyap has to say on claims that ‘Bollywood is sinking’

Director Anurag Kashyap and actor Taapsee Pannu reacted to Bollywood’s recent mark of constant boycott calls at the box office. The recent big-budget movies like Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan had to face the same. Taapsee in an interview even said that if her upcoming movie Dobaaraa isn’t boycotted she would feel left out!

While having a conversation with India Today, the actress said, “Humari picture boycott nahin kiya, toh we’ll feel out of place. Toh, please boycott karte rehna. We should be in the league of Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan, and in the league of the films that are being boycotted. We are also a part of Bollywood, we don’t want to feel out of place.” On which Anurag Kashyap added saying that he wonders whether the ones supporting the boycott trends even watch the movies on big screen or just simply download them later illegally.

Responding to the statement that Bollywood is sinking, the director said, “The country is sinking. Duniya sink kar rahi hai, and you’re talking about Bollywood. There’s a heat wave in Europe, and the whole world is sinking, the ice caps are melting, and so you won’t see the Maldives in a while.” Anurag also added that till the world goes up in flames he will continue making and directing films.

When he was asked why the Bollywood films are not working at the box office recently he said, “We’re just not reaching out. Sometimes even the good films have not worked, who knows? If everyone had the formula, we would be Ambanis right now. One can’t predict the performance of a film”.

Countering the argument of Bollywood filmmakers need to think outside the box Taapsee said our upcoming project Dobaaraa is a completely new concept. She said “Now we’ve made a film on time travel. Let’s see how many people come. Now people can’t say we didn’t make an out-of-the-box film.”
