Janhvi Kapoor talks about how Sridevi was obsessed with her name

Janhvi Kapoor has frequently talked about her close relationship with her family members. In an interview, she described her life mentors as her father, Boney Kapoor, sisters Khushi Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor, and brother Arjun Kapoor. She has now revealed that her late mother, actress Sridevi, was “obsessed” with her name.

Talking about whether her name was inspired by the character played by actor Urmila Matondkar in Judaai. She said in an interview that her father, producer Boney Kapoor, and mother, late actress Sridevi, both loved the name before the film was created. She also remembers Sridevi being “very enamoured with the concept” that the name’s meaning is purity.

In an interview with Filmfare, Janhvi has said, “No, I was not named after Urmila’s character in Judaai. I think dad just really liked the name from before the film and mom did too. I think mom was really obsessed with the idea that the meaning of it was purity and she would keep looking at me and keep telling me that I look pure and pure soul and things like that. So I feel it really resonated with her in that sense.”
Raj Kanwar directed Judaai, which was released in 1997. Anil Kapoor, Sridevi, Urmila Matondkar, Kader Khan, Farida Jalal, Johnny Lever, Paresh Rawal, Upasana Singh, and Saeed Jaffrey star in the movie. It was a remake of the Telugu film Subhalagnam from 1994. While Anil portrayed the part of Raj Verma, Sridevi played Kajal Jain Verma, and Urmila played Janhvi Sahni Verma.

Janhvi responded to being told that she reminded people of her mother by saying, “It feels good when they say that I remind them of my mom. But it’s also logical, I mean we have the same genes. But it means a lot. I think that I get so happy when I see so much of my mom in my sister and I like to think that it’s vice versa too so to me, it’s comforting and obviously very flattering.”

Meanwhile, Janhvi Kapoor will next be seen in Sajid Nadiadwala’s Bawaal, co-starring Varun Dhawan. Bawaal, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is a love story that will be released on April 7 of next year. She just completed filming for Milli, in which she co-starred with Sunny Kaushal. Aanand L Rai’s Good Luck Jerry is one of her other future ventures.
