Review

On the face of it, the film happens to be an unpredictable whodunit. Here who has committed the murder is more vital and interesting than the way it has been done. The film has a director who takes the plunge in film making the first time. Hence its impact is seen in the film. As you start watching the film, it happens to be sincere in its genre and subject. However, the debutante director  fails to infuse the grittiness, which the lead actors bring over the table. As a matter of fact, the elements like nervous energy, fear and stress, which otherwise remain the key elements of any crime mystery film.

Raat Akeli Hai Movie Review

However, with the long running time of 2 hrs and 29 minutes, the film remains a long-winded and exhausting one. Now, talking about the other elements like screenplay, it seems like an ode to films of similar genre. Talking about the performances, Nawaz in the role of a cop is incredible as he is able to portray his deduction and detective skills as he struggles hard against a corrupt system. The other characters played by Radhika Apte are compelling as well, while actors like Shweta Tripathi, Tigmanshu Dhulia and Shivani Raghuvanshi also have decent roles to play.

Talking about the other elements, direction and music have enough room to improve. However, considering the debut film by Trehan, good scores can be given to his efforts. The music seemed okay and so were the other elements like photography, editing and other technical skills, which somewhere improved upon the entertainment value of the film.

Raat Akeli Hai – The Last Word

The film could be a decent watch considering the performances and ensemble star cast, however, it still has room to become engaging. Yet, you would enjoy the detective riddles the complex case has in the film.
