X past is present movie review

Peeping The Love With 11 Different Eyes

This Friday isn’t that busy as Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is still rocking, hence the audience has only one film – X: Past Is Present releasing this week. The film has brought in 11 directors working as one team to embark with one story. These include Abhinav Shiv Tiwari, Anu Menon, Nalan Kumarasamy, Hemant Gaba, Pratim D. Gupta and Q Raja to name a few. The film has the talented actor and director – Rajat Kapoor along 11 different female actors including Huma Qureshi, Neha Mahajan, Radhika Apte and Piaa Bajpai to name a few. The film revolves around the life of one man (Rajat Kapoor) who is a filmmaker who gets involved into 11 different ladies in the past, which makes their present. The film is produced by Manish Mundra under the banner of Drishyam Films. Now, let’s us dig deep into the film to get the crux of the same.

Plot

We all live in the ruins of dysfunctional relationship and at times feel where we all went wrong. Hence no wonder people can be seen flushing at the prospects of a new romance with their hearts fluttering with countless possibilities in the near future. Once we pursue the next relationship by ending the previous one, we never realise it can come in our front in some way or the other. This is the crux of the film – X- Past Is Present wherein the actor at the main lead had been in relationship with ten different girls in the past when he is a successful filmmaker with a family.

Script Analysis

Love being a force has been covered in our B Town movies extensively, however, in the film X-Past Is Present the subject is dissected at its core. Hence it won’t be wrong to claim that this film has dealt with the subject of love in the most poignant fashion. The film is so close to the real time experiences yet one can find it cinematically removed. You can call this film to be an omnibus piece wherein eleven different talented actresses from B Town both new and old were seen contributing their screen spaces the best in a single story. And X seems to be visually and thematically disparate in the approach it has for love and its repercussions. This man known as K (the filmmaker – Rajat Kapoor) when he lands up in the business of making films is compelled to make his networks or contacts, which leads him to come in touch with girls and rest is history as you can guess the best.

At this juncture, it is obvious to guess the next sequence; however, you might think you are going correct in guessing the next moment till you find something different making you always at the toe while catching up the film. One may wonder as to who 11 different directors fits into the film managing the story without messing up. But Mind It, as every director in the film was smart enough to play with their piece of K in the film with the choice of their actress in the film not just with their wits but in other ways as well. You may find the results of these filmmakers to be different in terms of tons and genre and also to some extent in terms of quality, yet the end result is simply the best, which deserves an honest attention by the audience and critics.

Performances

To begin with, Rajat Kapoor while playing the character of K in the film the filmmaker is fantastic. He is a mature actor who has loads of exposure in doing a wide range of characters and role along with having tangible amount of experience in directing and filmmaking. Hence to expect such calibre of performance isn’t that surprising which he displayed while playing the character of Mr. K. Now talking about the girls, they all seemed okay, however, the few at the top like Radhika Apte, Huma Qureshi and Neha Mahajan seemed good at the silver screen. Yet the others cannot be underestimated for their performance for their roles considering their smaller size screen presence.

Direction, Screenplay, Music and other Technical Elements

Ten directors is history in any film and with X-Past Is Present, this record seems breaking. Well, all the names you find in the director list have his own choice of actress for the particular love story. And interestingly a majority of directors were able to do justice to the character they have handled making it a fitting element of the film that helped the ball rolling on the floor. Now, talking about the other elements like screenplay, music, location, etc, everything seemed matching in a perfect fashion. In fact, the filmmakers have paid special attention towards making the film real, which has compelled them to tread the path that ways matching up the expectations and plans as set for the film.

The Last Word – X-Past Is Present

The film is a classic example of how organised efforts put together can do wonders. When ten directors embarked together to make a film, they were able to present their tone and genre while fitting their choice of story in it with the given actress in it. No two stories are seen the same and similar is the story of relationship, which has all the elements like pain, passion, trauma, tragedy, etc interwoven perfectly by the directors in the film. All these elements simply help the film to become real and authentic making it too interesting to catch in the cinema. Yet one cannot call it as conventional movie, which has all the masala to attract audience far and wide. Critically the film can be called as good and competitive, yet will fail to attract the audience making it big unlike any star stud film.

Rating – 4.0
