Hijab row: Swara Bhasker gets massively trolled over her Draupadi-Mahabharat Tweet
Swara Bhasker is one of the very few actors who have spoken up on the whole Hijab controversy. It all started in Karnataka where an educational institution barred Muslim girls from attending classes wearing the Hijab. It became a burning issue in the country and it led to huge protests across the nation.
Swara Bhasker took to Twitter to express her outrage at reports of Muslim women being humiliated in various regions of the country. She compared it to Draupadi’s disrobing in the royal court of the Kauravas in the Mahabharat. That assembly, as we know, included stalwarts such as Dhritrashtra, Vidura, and Bheeshma, yet no one said anything when Dushshashana began removing Draupadi’s saree. Lord Krishna was the one who spared her from the insult.
In Hindi, she wrote, “In Mahabharata, Draupadi’s clothes were forcibly taken off.. and the responsible, powerful, law-makers sitting in the assembly kept watching.. just remembered today.”

However, as soon as she expressed her views the troll army activated and started trolling her. Some netizens attacked Swara Bhaskar on the same.
Draupadi was one of the five Panchkanyaas, they told her. There are the five chaste women of Indian mythology. Others commented on her videos while wearing short dresses, implying that a woman dressed like this should not remark on such topics.
Meanwhile, Karnataka High Court in its order said, “Pending consideration of all these petitions, we restrain all the students regardless of their religion or faith from wearing saffron shawls (Bhagwa) scarfs, hijab, religious flags or the like, within the classroom, until further orders.”
“We make it clear that this order is confined to such of the institutions wherein the College Development Committees have prescribed the student dress code/uniform”.
It also added that the right to freedom of religion was not absolute. “However, such a right not being absolute is susceptible to reasonable restrictions as provided by the Constitution of India. Whether wearing of hijab in the classroom is part of the essential religious practice of Islam in the light of constitutional guarantees, needs a deeper examination”.
“Ours being a civilized society, no person in the name of religion, culture or the like can be permitted to do any act that disturbs public peace and tranquility. Endless agitations and closure of educational institutions indefinitely are not happy things to happen. The hearing of these matters on an urgent basis is continuing,” the full bench said.
