Wiki – Naseeruddin Shah is an Indian film director and actor, who is widely considered to be one of the finest Indian film and state actors in the country. He has been awarded with a number of honors for his contribution in Indian cinema including the three time National Film Awards and three time Filmfare awards and even one award for Venice Film Festival. He has even been honored with Padma Bhusan and Padma Shri, which is among the most honored awards in Indian Cinema. In Bollywood, he is considered to be among the most accomplished actors, who is known for his acting skills and incredible performance.

Bio – As far as his early life is concerned, he was born in Barabanki in UP in a Muslim family, while his father was in Indian Army. He did his schooling from St. Anselm’s Ajmer and his college from St Joseph’s College, Nainital. He did his BA from AMU in 1971 and attended NSD in New Delhi. He is among the ace actors in Bollywood along with the Parallel Cinema. He has also worked in a several overseas movies including playing the character of Captain Nemo, which is basically a Hollywood adaptation – The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. His elder broth Lt. General Zameerud Din Shah, PVSM, SM and VSM was recently appointed at the VC of AMU, while his nephew Salim Shah is also into TV and film acting profession.

Talking about his career, he has given some of the best films including the ones called Aakrosh, Nishant, Mirch Masala, Sparsh, Trikal, Bhavni Bhavai, Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Ata Hai, Mandi, Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho!, Junoon, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Ardh Satya and Katha. In his early stages of his career, he also acted in the movie called Dil Aakhir Dil Hai and Masoom. He then turned out a mainstream Bollywood film starting his career with the movie called Hum Paanch in 1980. Some of his hit movies of 80’s include Karma, Ijaazat, Jalwa, Hero Hiralal, The Perfect Murder, etc.   In 1990’s he was even seen in the character of a villain in Mohra and acted in several south Indian movies. Post 2000, he did movies like Hey Ram wherein he played the character of Gandhi in the movie, which was his dream role. His character of a drunken coach in a movie called Iqbal was really appreciated by one and all.

Then came movies like Sarfarosh and A Wednesday, his characters in both the movies were highly appreciated, especially the latter one, which was based on counter terrorism plot. Some of his latest movies include The Dirty Picture, Ishquiya and its sequel released this year. He was also seen in certain movies made in Pakistan with making a debut in a film called Khuda Ke Liye wherein he has a small cameo in it. Apart from acting in Bollywood Films, he also acted in plays and theatres. He played the character of Mirza Ghalid in a TV serial directed by Gulzar, he formed a group with Benjamin Gilani and Tom Alter to form a theatre group known as Motley Productions, which embarked with its first play called Beckett’s Waiting for Godot.

As a director, he was seen giving his ace performance with his theatre group at number of places like Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi and even Lahore. He mostly directed the plays, which was written by Lavender Kumar, Saadat Hasan Manto and Ismat Chughai. His directorial debut started with the movie Yun sizzlinga To Kya sizzlinga was simply released in the year 2006. It carried out a couple of stars including Konkona Sen, Paresh Rawal, Irrfan Khan, Ayesha Takia and his son Imaad Shah along with his old friend called Ravi Baswani. As far as his married life is concerned, he had two marriages, the first one was with Manara Sikri, wherein he has a daughter called Heeba Shah he then married to Ratna Pathak Shah once his first wife passed away in the year 1982 from which he has two sons called Imaad and Vivaan.
