Just before the much-hyped film – 2.0 starring Rajinikanth, and Akshay Kumar was to release, the Madras High Court came up with an important decision for clamping down the piracy industry. The court has directed around 37 ISPs to block more than 12,000 websites, which showcases the pirated versions of South Indian films. This includes the site TamilRockers that operate more than 2000 websites. It was Justice M Sundar who gave this decision this Wednesday when the production company Lyca Productions Pvt. Ltd and the other producers of 2.0 had submitted the plea to regulate the piracy thing.
So, when the Madras High Court heard the case, the Lyca’s lawyer gave the list of around 12564 illegal websites that broadcast the Tamil movies illegally over these sites. While talking about the case, the Lyca’s lawyer indicated that TamilRockers even if is banned or blocked it comes along with mirror websites by simply changing its URL or simply change its extension and thus is seen reinstating with the illegal movies at minimal effort. He then gave the list of websites by this group and pleaded the court to block them severely.
As the company Lyca has brought up its highly expensive film called ‘2.0’, which has one of the top actors of Bollywood and South, it has the risk of becoming the victim of piracy. The makers have booked more than 7000 screens all across India and abroad, hence they do not want to take any chance of losing money in piracy. The film enjoys a good buzz in the media and has garnered more than 25 million views in 24 hours. Also, the whopping cost of 550 Crores too has a significant amount for the makers to take preventive measurements against the sites that broadcast the films illegally. Thus the Madras High Court has made a right decision in blocking the websites that air the movie using unfair means. The film will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Marathi.
