Madhur Bhandarkar says, “Film Industry Is Facing Dire Financial Crisis Right Now”

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandkar says that the film industry is facing a financial crisis right now, despite reopening of theaters the audience hasn’t been encouraged to visit theaters but he is hopeful that things will pick-up speed by the end of this year.

When asked about filmmakers facing huge challenges with their releases, Madhur said, “Releasing films is a huge challenge right now, whether theaters or digitally, getting the investment back is really important. See, we filmmakers make films for theater audiences; every filmmaker wants his film to be released in theater but since corona that hasn’t been possible. Theaters are closing down, not just in India but across the globe. The film industry is facing a dire financial crisis right now”

“There is no revenue for anyone, whether people buying tickets to watch a movie, or people working in or around theater business. Despite theaters reopening recently, the audience hasn’t been encouraged to visit it. But I am hopeful that by the end of this year, we will find some speed or pace” added the filmmaker.

Madhur Bhandarkar is currently busy with post-production of India Lockdown, a drama movie inspired by true events and is set around the first two months of the lockdown. The movie features Prateik Babbar, Aahana Kumra, Shweta Basu Prasad and Sai Tamhankar and others in key roles.

Talking about his film and its release, Madhur added, “As far as my film, Lockdown India, is concerned, I’d just finished editing it and right now we’re working on the background music. Once we finish the work on the film, we will sit down with all the producers and take a call whether to have theatrical release or digital one”
