Lucasfilm revealed three new “Star Wars” films to be directed by James Mangold, Dave Faloni, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy during Star Wars Celebration in London on Friday. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said that the directors will make three independent films.

James Mangold will helm a film about the birth of the first Jedi, set 25,000 years in the past. Dave Filoni will direct a film depicting the Imperial remnants’ fight. Filoni, who made his live-action directorial debut with “The Mandalorian” and is the showrunner on the upcoming “Ashoka,” will make a film set shortly before the events of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

Obaid-Chinoy’s film will take place after the events of 2019’s “Rise of Skywalker,” and the film’s script is written by Steven Knight who has penned scripts for critically acclaimed and popular shows like Peaky Blinders and a film “Spencer” (2021).

“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” directed by JJ Abrams and released in 2019, was the most recent live-action “Star Wars” film.

Mangold, who is anticipating the release of his most anticipated film, “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” told hollywoodreporter.com “When I first started talking to Kathy about doing one of these pictures, what came to mind was thinking about what kind of genre of movie I wanted to do within Star Wars,” he explained. “And I considered a Biblical epic, such as the Ten Commandments, about the dawning of the Force.” What is the origin of the Force, when did we find it, and when did we learn how to use it?”
