Runway 34 Review: Ajay, Sr. Bachchan, Rakul starrer is an edgy thriller that proves to be a fantastic cinematic experience

Film: Runway 34
Director: Ajay Devgn
Cast: Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐1/2

Story:

Runway 34 is a compelling film based on the true tale of Jet Airways flight 9W 555 from Doha to Kochi. Due to poor sight and adverse weather, the pilot, in this case Vikrant (Ajay Devgn), was forced to make the hard decision of trying a landing that could go either way. Because runway 34 is bordered by a densely populated area, runway 16 would have been a better option; instead, flying to Bengaluru airport would have been more practical. Vikrant lands, swag and unlit cigarette in hand, narrowly avoiding a collision.

Review:

Runway 34, written by Sandeep Kewlani and Aamil Keeyan Khan, has a solid script and stays true to its theme. There is none of the superfluous melodrama, comedy situations, or song and dance routines that plague Bollywood films. The film’s production value is outstanding, featuring stunning visual effects. The first half of the film keeps you on the edge of your seat as Captain Vikrant tries to safely land the plane on the Trivandrum runway, while the second half, which deals with the investigation and courtroom drama, keeps you captivated. The duration, on the other hand, was something they could have worked on. The background score by Amar Mohile heightens the tension.

Ajay nails his Vikrant Khanna in Runway 34 and stands tall as the filmmaker. He plays Vikrant with ease. Amitabh Bachchan plays Narayan Vedant convincingly.

Tanya Albuquerque, played by Rakul Preet Singh, offers drama but lacks flesh. Samaira, Vikrant’s supporting wife, is played by Aakanksha Singh, who is often forgotten. Boman Irani (Nishant Suri) is a fine actor, however, his track isn’t very good. Yusuf Rangoonwala’s Hrishikesh Pandey is wasted. Carry Minati, who portrays himself, is a hoot.

The cinematography of Aseem Bajaj is stunning. The production design by Sabu Cyril, Sujeet Subhash Sawant, and Sriram Kannan is realistic. VFX in New York Waala’s visual effects are excellent. The editing of Dharmendra Sharma is poor.

Verdict:
To summarize, Runway 34 keeps you captivated and makes you feel turbulence while pleasantly sitting. It’s edgy, fast-paced, and fascinating, and it delivers an unforgettable big-screen cinematic experience.
