Fighter Director Siddharth Anand Addresses CBFC’s Request to Trim ‘Suggestive Visuals,’ Ensuring Fans that it Won’t Alter the Narrative

Prior to its release, Fighter has generated considerable excitement. Featuring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles, the film promises to showcase a fresh pairing that will captivate audiences on the big screen. Recently, the official trailer of Siddharth Anand’s directorial venture was unveiled online, igniting anticipation among fans. However, just days before its global release, the film encountered a setback as the Censor Board recommended a few edits to secure a U/A certificate.

Last year, the director faced a similar situation with the film Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, when the Central Bureau of Film Certification suggested 10 cuts, including close-up shots of the actress. Notably, three modifications were made to the Besharam Rang song, encompassing specific dance movements.

In a recent interview, director Siddharth Anand addressed the Censor Board’s recommendations for Fighter, acknowledging that in order to attain a U/A certificate, they adhered to the guidelines. Speaking to News18, Anand stated, “Everything is very organic in my films. But yes, sometimes, you do things that you feel are working for your film at that point in time. Having said that, there are certain guidelines that the Censor Board operates on, and we have to accept that.”

When asked about the scenes that required edits, Siddharth Anand disclosed that it was a shot in the closing song video that had to be removed. He assured that the omitted content did not significantly impact the narrative, as it was part of the end credits. “We’ve graciously accepted those cuts, and that won’t change the narrative at all. What has been cut is in the end credits when the film is over. So, those shots weren’t that important,” he added.

The filmmaker also expressed his indifference towards the CBFC’s demands, emphasizing that they wouldn’t disrupt the flow of the narrative in Fighter.

Recently, Siddharth Anand addressed comparisons between Fighter and Top Gun Maverick, starring Tom Cruise, urging the audience and social media users to take pride in their country and its cinematic achievements. He also pointed out similarities between an action sequence from Mission Impossible and the film Pathaan.
