Hungama 2 Review: Paresh Rawal and Shilpa Shetty brings us an utterly boring film

OTT Movie: Hungama 2 (Hindi)

Rating: ⭐

Cast: Paresh Rawal, Shilpa Sherry, Meezaan Jaffrey, Pranitha Subhash and others

Director: Priyadarshan

Streaming on: Disney+Hotstar

Hungama 2, the follow-up to the smash blockbuster Hungama, is now available to watch on Disney+Hotstar. Shilpa Shetty makes her first appearance in cinema in 14 years in this flick.

Story:

The plot focuses on Colonel Kapoor (Ashutosh Rana), who intends to marry his son Akash (Meezaan Jaffrey) to the daughter of his best friend Bajaj (Manoj Joshi). Vaani (Pranitha Subhash), Akash’s college sweetheart, arrives with a baby she says is his. Yunus Sajawal’s screenplay then tries to make light of the situation, but we’re left with a sense of annoyance.

When we heard that the smashing comedy Hungama is getting a sequel, we were mentally prepared to suspend our disbelief and take in the high-pitched slapstick comedy without asking too many questions. Given the director’s distinctive method of conjuring up perplexity to elicit laughs, Hungama 2 puts our patience to the test. It’s an agonizing wait for a joke to land with a two-and-a-half-hour run length.

Direction:

Priyadarshan, like most top directors, is still in his cocoon. He’s making films that a new generation of moviegoers scoff at. In the 1980s and 1990s, his ideas were influential. Hungama 2, his most recent film, is a prime example.

The film, which is based on Priydarshan’s 1994 Malayalam classic Minnaram, lacks a single comic scene that can connect with today’s audience.

Performances:

Even renowned actors like Paresh Rawal and Ashutosh Rana have acted like a cakewalk in their roles. Pranitha Subhash and Meezaan Jaffrey barely create an impression. Shilpa Shetty has a good screen presence, however, her part is poorly constructed. Akshaye Khanna appears in a cameo role.

Music:

Music is such that it will be easily forgotten. Even the incredibly hit song Chura Ke Dil Mera’s remix version isn’t very effective. The cinematography is okayish.

Verdict:

Overall, Hungama 2 is one of the most poorly made films in recent memory. This is uninteresting stuff due to a lack of comedy, a clichéd plot, and a predictable narrative.
