Srikanth’s ‘Papa Kehte Hai’ Song Launch: Aamir Khan Pays Tribute to Late Gulshan Kumar, Acknowledges Bhushan Kumar’s Legacy
The recreated version of the iconic song “Papa Kehte Hai” from the 1988 film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak was launched at a delightful event held in an auditorium in Mumbai on April 22. Aamir Khan, who starred in the original version, and Udit Narayan, who lent his voice to both versions, graced the event along with the team members of Srikanth’s upcoming film. The team included actors Rajkummar Rao, Alaya F, and Sharad Kelkar, director Tushar Hiranandani, producer Nidhi Parmar Hiranandani, and the film’s inspiration, Srikanth Bolla.
The event kicked off with visually impaired individuals showcasing their incredible talent by performing on “Papa Kehte Hai” as well as another popular song from Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, “Aye Mere Humsafar.”
On stage, Aamir Khan spoke highly of Rajkummar Rao’s performance in the film, saying, “When I saw Srikanth’s trailer, I was amazed. I immediately connected with the character of Srikanth, and I am eagerly waiting to experience his journey. The film seems highly inspiring, and Rajkummar Rao has delivered a wonderful performance. From the trailer, it is evident that he has truly immersed himself in the character and lived the role of Srikanth.”
Adding to Aamir’s comments, Nidhi Parmar Hiranandani mentioned, “This song will always belong to Aamir sir and Udit sir. We are merely passing it on to the next generation!”
Aamir Khan also took a moment to remember Gulshan Kumar, the father of Bhushan Kumar, who is one of the producers of Srikanth’s film. Aamir praised Bhushan for successfully taking over the business at a young age after Gulshan ji’s unfortunate demise. He acknowledged Bhushan’s contribution in advancing the family business and the music industry, providing numerous opportunities for young musicians. Aamir urged the audience to applaud Bhushan’s achievements.
Rajkummar Rao shared how life has come full circle for him, reminiscing about his days after completing 12th grade when he used to travel on a bicycle from Gurgaon to Delhi and back. During those journeys, he would listen to songs on his Walkman, with “Papa Kehte Hai” being one of his favorites. He revealed that he used to listen to the song to motivate himself, dreaming of making a big name for himself. Now, having the song picturized on him in Srikanth’s film feels surreal to him.
