Shah Rukh Khan reveals that ‘they didn’t even have money to furnish Mannat when they bought it

Over the years, Shah Rukh Khan’s sea-facing bungalow ‘Mannat’ has practically earned the status of a popular tourist destination in Mumbai. At least a thousand people gather outside the gate of a sea-facing mansion in suburban Bandra merely to take selfies in front of it. At the launch of his wife Gauri Khan’s new book ‘My Life In Design,’ SRK revealed how they didn’t even have enough money to furnish ‘Mannat’ when they first bought it, and it was his wife Gauri who took on the responsibility to design the house, which turned out to be her first project as an interior designer.

“We used to live in a house next to Taj, which was my director’s house,” SRK explained. When we had enough money, we decided to buy one house (Mannat). Then we were able to purchase one. We didn’t have enough money back then to furnish it.”

“Of course, we called one designer,” the ‘Pathaan’ star continued. The lunch he served us was a preview of how he plans to design this house. It was far more than my monthly pay. So, now that we’ve purchased it, we wondered, “How do we do this house?” Then I replied, ‘See Gauri, you have creative aptitude, why don’t you become a house designer?’ Mannat began in this manner.

“We continued to buy tiny items with the money we had saved over the years. We used to have little money and would buy leather fur sofas and other little items. We took our time, which prompted her to begin designing. Starting without a designer early on aided her learning. She started designing things one after the other.”
