Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Jersey’ faces delay due to a copyright claim by writer

Shahid Kapoor’s much-awaited film ‘Jersey’ has been pushed ahead. Now the film will be released on April 22. Also starring Mrunal Thakur the film has landed into trouble after writer Rajneesh Jaiswal, filed a copyright infringement complaint in the Bombay High Court against the makers of the film ‘Jersey’ and Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor.

Jaiswal alleged that the film’s story/script belongs to him. Justice Chagla will hear the case at the Mumbai High Court. According to the reports, this is the cause for the film’s postponement till next week.

According to ETimes reliable source, the filmmakers anticipated that the matter would take some time in court. The matter was scheduled to be heard in the Bombay High Court after lunch yesterday, but it was postponed until today. It was not heard today, either. It has now been postponed till tomorrow.

In his petition, Jaiswal seeks a stay of release for the film, which is set to be on April 22. He stated that in 2007, he filed his script named “The Wall” with the defunct Film Writers Association (now Screenwriters Association).

He alleged that the premise, plot, and idea from his script were unlawfully plagiarised by the creators of “Jersey” as well as a Telugu film based on his script that was previously released in 2019.

‘Jersey’ is a sports drama directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, presented by Allu Arvind and produced by Dil Raju, S. Naga Vamsi and Aman Gill.
