Kajol, Ajay Devgan, Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji were the original choice for Kalank
The much awaited Karan Johar’s ‘Kalank’ is all set to create sensation theatres this April. The trailer flaunts an epic and eternal love story among the interesting characters. We are all excited to watch dashing Varun Dhawan, cute Alia Bhatt, veteran actress Madhuri Dixit Nene, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha in their intriguing roles.
There is an interesting story behind this movie, Johar, in his book ‘An Unsuitable Boy’ revealed that Kalank was conceptualized 15 years ago. He originally wanted to feature Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji. The excerpt from his book says, “When my father was alive, I was writing a love story set in pre-partition times. But the canvas was too large, it was supposed to have Shah Rukh, Ajay, Rani and Kajol. It was about homes, and it had a Hindu-Muslim angle. It was a very strong subject, and would be called Kalank.”
Somehow, the movie did not happen but KJO never left the story. Talking at the teaser launch, he shared that the movie is very close to his heart. He is trying to create it since 2003. It was difficult for him to work it out after his father’s death. It took him some time and courage to actually develop the script.
Directed by Abhishek Varman, Kalank is a love tale set in 1940s India. The love story speaks about pre-partition love. It will be interesting to watch hit couple Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan in the lead roles. Both of them have already delivered blockbusters Student of the Year and Humpty Sharma in Dulhania. It would exclusive to watch Madhuri Dixit Nene and Sanjay Dutt together. They have totally been a hot couple in the nineties.
