The Bombay High Court on Friday was seen going rude on the Censor Board of Film Certification on the issue of Udta Punjab cuts. The court said that the board should care about certifying the film instead of censoring the same with too many cuts. Rather thinking of banning the movie, the board should be giving the A certificate to it that according to the CBFC is trying to glorify the drugs. At the same time, the court has asked the makers of the film clamping down the explicit sequences in it along with taking care of the cuss words used in it.
The appeal was filed by the court for the reason the Censor board was creating problems for the movie, which led the Phantom Productions to knock the doors of the high court. Later the bench of judge comprising of justice S C Dharmadhikari and Justic Shalini Phansalkar Joshi went on castigating heavily on the board and asked not to go overly critical as it will simply kill the creativity in the film industry. Talking about the CBFC’s demand to delete the world Punjab, the court said that it will make the film lose its crux.
It further said that if the film is someway glorifying the use of drugs rather than banning it, certify the film accordingly and let people decide whether they want to watch it or not. Talking about the cuss words used in it, the judges were of the opinion that today’s generation is very much open, direct and lot mature. They further said that movie do not often are based on these cuss words only but it is the content that makes all the difference.  The final decision of the court would be given on Monday.
