Zakir Hussain is a popular actor of Bollywood and smaller screens, who generally appears in a character of grey shades. He hails from Meertu, Uttar Pradesh wherein he was born and brought up at. He did his schooling and junior college from Meerut itself and then headed to Delhi, wherein he got the chance to get attached to theatre and therein joined Shri Ram Center for Performing Arts and later enrolled in the prestigious institute popularly known as NSD (National School Of Drama) from where he graduated in the year 1993. After graduating from NSD, he headed to Mumbai to pursue his dreams of acting.

After shifting to Mumbai, he got the chance to work with a couple of theatre groups and later joined the smaller screens in TV and films. There he got the chance to work with a couple of TV serials including Kitty Party, Firdaus, Gaatha, etc, which gave him recognition in the industry. However, his entry into the films came out with the movie called Ek Hasina Thi in the year 2004 of Sriram Raghavan. His role was simply based on 2 to 3 scenes, still he was able to impress the critics and audience, giving him the opportunity to work with Ramgopal Varma who offered him a role in the movie Sarkar. His performance as a cold blooded villain was very much appreciated and gave him a couple of awards. Since then he was a regular face in Ramgopal Varma’s films.

One of the most acclaimed movie of Zakir Hussain was Johnny Gaddaar, wherein he played the character of a baddie called Shardul, which gave him both fame and money thus making him popular over the streets of B Town as Shardul. Apart from acting in big and smaller screens, he is also known as a talented musician along with a singer and percussionist. However, without any confusion, this man is different from the famous Tabla man called the same Zakir Hussain. Some of his recent movies include Ramiya Vastaviya, Holiday, Chaartufiya Chhokare and Singham Return, while his upcoming movie include Alone starring Bipasha Basu and Karan Grover Singh.
