Why did Netflix apologise to an Indian Expat in UAE for Sacred Games 2!

Sacred Games 2

An Indian expat in Sharjah has been known to get flooded with a number of unsolicited phone calls from global grounds ever since the release of the second season of the hit crime thriller Sacred Games on Netflix on August 15.

As reported, this man is native to Kerala named Kunhabdulla CM. His mobile number was shown as fictional gangster Sulaiman Isa’s number during the first episode of the new season.

Stating the same, Kunhabdulla said, “I have been getting incessant calls on my phone for the last three days from India, Pakistan, Nepal, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and around the world. I don’t know what is happening. Hearing my phone ring sends shivers down my spine. I want to cancel my number. I want this problem to go away.”

Kunhabdulla, 37, is an employee at a local oil company and even never heard of Sacred Games, the blockbuster web series on Netflix starring award-winning actors like Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

Saif plays the role of a Sikh cop in the TV series while Siddiqui is a Mumbai-based crime lord for the show.

“What’s Sacred Games? A video game? I work from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. I don’t have time for such things. I got more than 30 calls (on Sunday) and it’s draining my battery. In the last one hour, I got five calls asking for someone called Isa… Who is Isa? I don’t have anything to do with him,” her further added.

Kunhabdulla’s number was on public display during the scene in Sacred Games season 2 where an undercover Indian agent from Kenya hands a chit to Ganesh Gaitonde (Siddiqui) containing the number of the dreaded gangster Isa. Even though the number wasn’t visible on the first sight as it was held on a small piece of paper, the subtitles did the magical work and the number got noted anyway.

Very shortly after the Gulf News’ report published the news, Netflix and the production company drafted a letter to the newspaper saying that they have removed Kunhabdulla’s number and also apologized on the same, “We apologise for any inconvenience caused. As soon as we were alerted to the situation, we resolved the issue and removed the phone number from the subtitles.”
