FRIENDS popular character Kames Michael Tyler aka Gunther suffers from stage 4 prostate cancer
Popular sitcom FRIENDS star Kames Michael Tyler aka Gunther reveals that he is suffering from stage 4 prostate cancer.
During an appearance on NBC’s Today Show Monday, he said, “In September of 2018, I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, which had spread to my bones.”
According to the actor, the doctors discovered the condition during his physical when he was 56.
Last month, Tyler made an appearance via Zoom on the “Friends: The Reunion” special. The show aired on HBO Max where almost all the cast of the show including Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and Matthew Perry were present.
Speaking of the reunion, Tyler said, “I wanted to be a part of that, and initially I was going to be on the stage, at least, with them, and be able to take part in all the festivities. It was bittersweet, honestly. I was very happy to be included. It was my decision not to be a part of that physically and make an appearance on Zoom, basically, because I didn’t wanna bring a downer on it, you know? … I didn’t want to be like, ‘Oh, and by the way, Gunther has cancer.'”
During his interviews Tyler urged viewers to “ask your doctor for a PSA (prostate-specific antigen) test” next time they go in for an examination or check-up, adding that “caught early (it is) 99% treatable.”‘
