Drishyam franchise to be remade in South Korea, Parasite star Song Kang-Ho to co-produce the film
Mohanlal’s most popular Malayalam thriller Drishyam is likely to be remade in South Korea after being remade in several languages. The remake was officially announced during the ongoing 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. The Korean adaptation will star Parasite actor Song Kang-Ho.
The first Drishyam franchise was produced in Malayalam and starred Mohanlal. It was remade in numerous languages, including Hindi which starred Ajay Devgn. The Korean remake was officially announced on May 21 at the India Pavilion, managed by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), during the ongoing Cannes Film Festival in France.
Panorama Studios, which produced the Hindi version of Drishyam, and Anthology Studios, which was created by former Warner Bros. local Korean production boss Jay Choi, renowned actor Song Kang-ho, and acclaimed filmmaker Kim Jee-woon, have collaborated on the Korean remake. This would be the first-ever collaboration between an Indian and Korean studio and the first time an Indian film is being officially remade in Korean language.

“I’m excited that the Drishyam franchise is being made in Korean, a first for a Hindi film,” producer Kumar Mangat Pathak told Deadline in response to the announcement. “This will not only broaden its appeal outside of India, but will also put Hindi cinema on the international map. We’ve been inspired by Korean cinema for years, and now they’ve found a muse in one of our films.”, he added. According to Deadline, the first installment of Drishyam’s Korean adaptation will begin production in 2024.
About original Drishyam and it’s remakes: The first installment of the original Malayalam Drishyam was released in 2013. Written and directed by Jeethu Joseph, the film received rave reviews from the critics and also turned out to be a huge blockbuster at the box office. It was later remade in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.. The Hindi remake was helmed by Nishikant Kamat and starred Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran. The Tamil remake was helmed by Jeethu Joseph and starred Kamal Haasan in the lead. A Telugu remake was helmed by Sripriya and starred Daggubati Venkatesh in the lead and Kannada remake was helmed by P. Vasu and starred Ravichandran in the lead. All four remakes turned out to be huge hits in their respective film industries. Jeethu Joseph came up with the sequel ‘Drishyam 2, in 2021 which also later got remade in Hindi, Telugu and Kannada.
