Delhi HC barred 23 from illegally streaming Akshay Kumar’s Ram Setu

To combat piracy, the Delhi High Court on Thursday barred 23 “rogue websites” from illegally distributing, streaming, hosting, retransmitting, exhibiting, and downloading the upcoming Akshay Kumar film Ram Setu. The producer had filed a copyright infringement suit.

“Defendants No. 1 to 23 (rogue websites) and all others acting for and/or on their behalf are restrained from in any manner hosting, streaming, retransmitting, exhibiting, making available for viewing and downloading, providing access to and/or communicating to the public, displaying, uploading, modifying, publishing, updating and/or sharing (including to its subscribers and users) on their websites through the internet or any other platform, the film ‘Ram Setu’ and contents related thereto, so as to infringe the Plaintiff’s exclusive rights and copyrights therein, till the next date of hearing,” the court ordered, as reported by Bar and Bench.

The order was issued by single-judge Justice Jyoti Singh, who stated that the producer had made a “significant investment in the movie and it would severely impact their interest monetarily if the rogue websites are allowed to host the same.” The Delhi High Court also ordered the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) to notify Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to block access to these rogue websites.

Akshay Kumar launched the film’s song ‘Jai Shree Ram’ a day ago at a grand event in Mumbai. Vikram Montrose sings and composes this song, which was written by Shekhar Astitwa. Eric Pillai of Future Sound Of Bombay mixed and mastered the song, which was overseen by Azeem Dayani. The Ram Setu team surprised Akshay by playing the karaoke version of the anthem and inviting him to sing on stage with his fans and media. To bring in the festive spirit, the team also hosted a special lunch for the media, serving traditional Diwali thali. Director Abhishek Sharma and Prime Video producers Vikram Malhotra and Manish Menghani were also in attendance.

Abhishek Sharma’s Ram Setu is a story about an atheist archaeologist turned believer, Aryan Kulshrestha (Akshay Kumar), who must race against time to prove the legendary Ram Setu’s existence before evil forces destroy the pillar of India’s heritage.
