Reports: Lata Mangeshkar has been put off ventilator

Lata Mangeshkar has been taken off the ventilator but remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), according to the doctor who is treating her. The 92-year-old singer tested positive for coronavirus and was brought to the Breach Candy Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on January 8 with minor symptoms, where she is being treated by Dr Pratit Samdani and his team of specialists.

Mangeshkar, according to Samdani, has showed signs of modest improvement.

“She has been off the ventilator for two-and-half days but continues to be under observation. She has been put off the ventilator because of marginal improvement in her health. Her health condition demands her to be in the ICU,” Samdani told PTI.

Lata Mangeshkar, who began her career at the age of 13 in 1942 and has sang over 30,000 songs in various Indian languages, is regarded as one of Indian cinema’s best playback singers.

She has been the voice behind several notable songs over the course of her seven-decade career, including “Ajeeb dastan hai ye,” “Pyar kiya to darna kya,” “Neela asman so gaya,” and “Tere liye,” among others.

Melody Queen of India has received various prizes and accolades, including the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, and Dada Saheb Phalke Award, as well as numerous National Film Awards. She is also a recipient of the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour.

We wish the singer a speedy recovery and good health. Get well soon Lataji.
